Pupdate 3/16/14: Major Overhaul

Same-Day Rewrite:  When I was putting less effort into it I was getting 5K hits a day.  Putting more effort into it gets me in the 100’s.  Really fcken frustrating.  Only three ways to deal with it:
1) Ditch it
2) Work harder on it
3) View it as something to do as a hobby, not a necessity, as I always should have

I picked 3.

Pupdate 2/20/14 – Semper Puppy

Currently playing max allowable by:

I mix the actual songs from time to time, but they’re always at max.

Also playing a bunch of other stuff.

But here’s the deal…over the next few weeks I’m gonna be trying out a song or two, now and again, that I’m thinking about adding to the rotation of “other stuff”.  Unsure on some of it, so if you hear a song you really LIKE, make sure you “like” it, or write to me and let me know.  If it’s one you really HATE, make sure you “dislike” it, or write to me and let me know.

Writing to me is better because:
1) I read all messages
2) It might have an actual impact (might not…but might)
3) If you say something I find clever I may quote you

So, get busy listening.  And keep in mind…if I haven’t played, and I’m not even testing it now…I’m not gonna play it.  So messages like “you should play X” will be pretty much ignored.

Pupdate: Radio Station (2/8/14)

Some station facts:

I will NOT stop playing anything in my main genres.  So if you click “down” on every Nirvana song, it ain’t gonna do any good.  And screw you, you annoying bastard.

I play as much as I can of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc…and I rotate a few songs in and out.  That means that a LOT of songs you will hear OVER and OVER for a LONGGGGG time.  Why?  Because they’re good, and I’m not gonna play (relatively) sh1t songs just for “variety”.  Want variety?  Try a freeform station.  Not mine.

Feel free to send me comments.  If I like them (or hate them) they might end up here.

There are always certain songs on the fringe.  Meaning, not sure if I want to play them or not.  If you hear an unusual song that you don’t hear often, please LISTEN to it, and vote it up or down.  This may have some effect on whether it comes back or not.

Finally, don’t make requests.  Cuz quite frankly, I don’t give a sh1t.

Pupdate – 1/27/14

For the past few months, my review of ‘The Devil’s Rock’ has been getting a substantial amount of hits.

Now, how I feel about that is, like the F&P, two ways:
1) Thanks, that’s rather flattering actually…and…
2) WTF is wrong with you people?? I’ve written a helluva lot of sh1t more witty than that.

Oh well…time for some boiling Cointreau.

Video Clips On Youtube

Since I’ve noticed that many SMALL clips (less than 5 minutes of a 2+ hour movie…hardly the entire thing) on Youtube tend to eventually get “Blocked/Removed for Copyright Reasons” by extremely rich companies (subsidiaries of ConHugeCo), I suggest this:

It is (well, check first, but as far as I know) completely legal to have those clips there, and they CANNOT be removed, if they are the subjects of “critical analysis”.  I don’t remember the exact wording, but the basic point is if it’s an analysis of that clip by a critic, it’s ok.

I am a critic.  Amateur, yes…but I’ve been reviewing things here for over 3 years.  So, if you make sure it’s legal first (I BELIEVE so, but just to be sure), ask me to give a critical analysis on a clip that you want put there, and I’ll watch it, and I will give it a critical analysis.  A real one, not just “Love this” or “it stinks”…but a real review/critique just like the stuff I do here.

How to know you’ve sorta kinda made it: become the target of a Denial Of Service attack.

Now, I appreciate someone attempting to hack me as much as the next guy, but it is illegal. 

Thus the disclaimer as the title for the post.  Because it certainly would be a shame if the NSA, which monitors all online communications, were to read this and find out that an illegal activity had occurred.  Why, they might even investigate.  So, please…don’t read this.  Thank you.

Three Years – It All Sucked

You have 780478 Total Visits – That’s 260K a year.  Not bad.  Not good…

Lately it’s slowed to a trickle.  But I remember the good old days when it was moderately popular.

I thought to myself: Why aren’t people coming nearly as often?  Several ideas crossed my mind.

Then I finally realized: Who gives a sh1t?  Lately it’s been more work than fun, so I’ll adopt the Spinal Tap viewpoint and look upon this as a good thing.  Sad?  Absolutely!  But maybe I’ll be discovered by Japan.  Or get re-inspired over something.  Until then, have a look at my glory day posts, some of which were actually pretty darn good!  ‘Equilibrium’ is actually the first review I’m REALLY proud of.  And rest easy in the knowledge that I’m building up a HUGE amount of material to post at a later date.  Or, I’m completely out of ideas and I’ll never post anything else interesting.  Too close to call, really.

And no, the site isn’t going anywhere.  It’s just on hiatus.  And no, I’m not selling it, if only to continue to frustrate those who enjoy seeing me fail.

Oh, and finally, at the risk of being a consumer whore (and how!), if anyone out there actually LIKES something I’ve written and wants to work on something critical-ish or MST-ish, let me know.

Pupdate – Near Future Reviews

Concentrating mostly on MST3K episodes until I’ve reviewed all except those I refuse to watch  (that would be, after some consideration, any further episode with J. Elvis/Josh Weinstein speaking in it).

Then back to mostly Netflix streaming sh1t with a tendency toward cr@p horror/camp, with the occasional good and even more occasional great movie thrown in.

Some people feel intense sorrow, pain, depression and other “negative” emotions because it’s just how they are, others because they’ve experienced intense suffering of some sort.

How anyone (myself included) can in any way fault anyone like this for how they feel is, at this point, beyond me.  How you act can be faulted, but not how other people act TOWARDS you.

And feelings are never “wrong”, nor are they “right”…they simply are.  From positively perpetually happy to abysmally sad/depressed.

Apologies to anyone I offended by my snide, arrogant complete ignorance regarding this.

Pupdate: Documentary Grade Edits

It’s very difficult for a documentary to stink.

You do your research, you get your footage, you have someone recite the lines, you film it, you stop.

So after seeing legions of terrible movies, the simple competence almost inherent to the documentary form was a welcome relief.

But simple competence isn’t enough…there have to be flashes of insight, moments of inspiration, true revelations that are moving in at least some way.

If not, you might as well just research the subject online.

Therefore, I’m going through my documentary grades and editing them with this in mind.
